SOKOTO

Suspected bandits have killed no fewer than fifteen people and injured several others, when they launched an attack on the Kwallaijiya community, in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.

Locals say the suspected assailants stormed the Kwallaijiya community in the early hours of Wednesday, and started shooting indiscriminately, and in the process, killed over fifteen persons.

Some members of the community expressed concern over the persistent violent attacks in the area, alleging that some persons in the community are collaborating with the bandits who are unleashing terror on citizens.

They also claimed that the recent attack was carried out by a suspected notorious bandit in the area, identified as Charambe.

The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council, Isa Bashir Kalanjeni, led a delegation to the village, where he attended the mass burial of the victims.

The police authority in Sokoto State is yet to make an official statement on this latest incident, and the Command’s Public Relations Officer did not respond to phone calls to his mobile lines.
