The Niger State command of the Nigerian Police Force has said its operatives have recovered 50 live rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition in the volatile Rijau Local Government Area of the State.
According to the authorities, the feat was achieved following a report received on June 25 at about 9:00am that suspected terrorists attacked Watari village through Rijau and its environs, rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle.
ait.live gathered that a timely response of air bombardment from Sulupawa village via Rijau to Kumbashi and Kakihum areas of Mariga Local Government, left the hoodlums in disarray with casualties.
According to a statement by the Niger State Police command spokesman, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, during a follow-up assessment of the operation, the Police operatives of Rijau Division, together with Vigilante members, recovered 50 rounds of anti-aircraft live ammunition, abandoned by the terrorists at Biyemu Forest on June 28, as a result of the heavy air bombardment.
Abiodun added that further security assessments and investigations are ongoing, to fortify the area against recurrence, while tactical teams are still being maintained at strategic locations for security coverage.
Similarly, a truck of 900 bags of cement, allegedly diverted by suspected criminal elements, was recovered by the Police, while the suspects have been arrested.
The Niger command PPRO explained that the incident occurred on June 22, around 2.30pm, when a report was received at Gawu-Babangida Division that a truck loaded with about 900 bags of cement from Okpella to be delivered to a customer at Gwagwalada, Abuja, was missing.
It was further reported that on reaching Gwagwalada at about 6:00pm, the truck was parked by the roadside to locate the customer, and while waiting, the driver entered a restaurant to eat, but before he returned, the vehicle was moved to an unknown destination.
The Police statement said that the driver quickly reported to his manager, and the vehicle was tracked to a location in the Lambata axis.
Upon the receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer for Gawu-Babangida, immediately mobilized his patrol team to the area, and the vehicle was recovered, along the Lambata-Lapai road with the cement.
The Police said 3 suspects who were arrested in connection with the crime have confessed that they had the intention to sell the cement to another buyer.
