Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has commissioned the newly constructed access road leading to the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto State, as part of activities marking the two years anniversary of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

The Minister also flagged off the construction of a N1.5 billion VIP lounge at the airport, a project being undertaken by the Sokoto State Government.

The project is aimed at enhancing passengers’ comfort and promoting the state’s image.

Governor Aliyu Sokoto assured that the new VIP lounge would be fitted with modern facilities that would provide a world-class experience for travellers.

Keyamo, while commissioning the road project, said the event underscored the spirit of collaboration between the Federal and State Governments in delivering quality infrastructure that enhances air travel, safety, and passenger experience.

While commending the Sokoto State Government for the two projects, he stressed that the Federal Government will continue to invest in Aviation infrastructure, as it is a critical driver of economic growth, regional integration, and national pride.

“This airport is a gateway not just to Sokoto but to the entire North-Western region. These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for enhancing passenger experience and facilitating regional development,” the Minister said.

Earlier, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto said the access road was reconstructed at a cost of ₦1.22 billion by his administration.

He noted that the road is expected to enhance access to the airport, improve passenger mobility, and stimulate economic activities in the surrounding region.
