Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is in Algeria for a high-level meeting, of African police chiefs, the continent’s law enforcement officials and other security stakeholders on transnational organised crime and regional police cooperation

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector General is participating in the 13th Steering Committee Meeting of AFRIPOL—the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation—taking place in Algiers.

The summit brings together Police Chiefs, law enforcement leaders, and regional security stakeholders to address pressing threats such as terrorism, violent extremism, cybercrime, trafficking, and transnational organized crime.

Egbetokun is attending in his capacity as Nigeria’s top cop and Chairperson of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO)—a role that underscores Nigeria’s leadership in continental security collaboration.

In his address at the meeting, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, stronger interagency cooperation, and the deployment of modern technology to combat criminal networks.

He also called for legal harmonization across borders and the training of officers to boost regional inter-operability.
