As government continues to find lasting solutions to the economic hardship through the renewed hope initiative, no fewer than 180 thousand people are to benefit from Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Economic Shocks Response Initiative in Niger State.

The program is part of government’s commitment to supporting poor and vulnerable households to cope with the hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal.

In Mokwa where the recent flood disaster ravaged 3 communities and left hundreds dead, about 780 beneficiaries are to receive debit cards to ensure they receive direct financial assistance.

Special Adviser to Niger State Governor and Focal Person, National Social Investment Program, Hauwa Bako, who is in Mokwa to supervise the card distribution, stated that the initiative aims to cushion the effects of economic shocks on vulnerable households, by providing 75,000 naira to each beneficiary.

The Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, commended the program, saying it will go a long way in assisting families and relatives of the recent flood victims in Mokwa.

Two among the beneficiaries, Adamu Baba and Fatima Raba, said the intervention is coming at the right time, when they have already resumed farming.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to reach over 180,000 households across Niger State, implemented via the National Social Safety-Nets Project – Scale Up (NASSP-SU) and the Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HOPE) Programme.
