Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu is confident that the nine-time champions are in a good position to reclaim the WAFCON title as they prepare to face hosts Morocco in the final on Saturday,

The Super Falcons arrived in Rabat, the capital city of Morocco, ahead of the final game on Wednesday and had their first training session on Thursday. The team had played their last five matches at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

Nigeria defeated defending champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa in Tuesday’s semi-final, with a late goal from defender Michelle Alozie, while Morocco got the better of Ghana 4-2 on penalties after normal time ended 1-1.

Nigeria will confront hosts Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat in what has been labelled as the most-anticipated match of the 13th WAFCON – a clash of the dominant power and one of the emerging powers of women’s football on the continent.

Both teams met in the semi-finals at the last edition when Nigeria lost two players to the referee’s marching orders before losing on penalties.

Nigeria has been impressive with 11 goals for and one against – a penalty scored by Linda Motlhalo of South Africa. Madugu’s side also boasts of one of the tournament’s top scorers in Chiwendu Ihezuo.

Saturday’s fixture will mark Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON final, and they are yet to lose a final since the inception of the tournament in 1998, and will be looking to finish their mission of ruling the continent for the 10th time.
