Some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders have identified early marriage as key drivers of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Nigeria, therefore want government and other stakeholders to intensify sensitization efforts, to fully implement the Child Rights Act, and invest in women’s empowerment to reduce poverty.

The non governmental organizations and others stakeholders said this during a Women and Girl-Child training workshop in Lokoja, the kogi state capital, targeted at equipping women and persons with disabilities with requisite skills for economic independence.

The training workshop, tagged “Ebulejonu” organized in collaboration with the Kogi State Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Eradication underscores the urgent need for joint actions to address Gender Based Violence (GBV) through education and forms of empowerment to help improve the living standards of women and girls in the country.

Some of the beneficiaries from the disability community, urged other women in the country to pursue skill acquisition to escape poverty and marginalization.

The workshop called increased support for the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV)
in Kogi State and across the country to make life peaceful and more meaningful for women and the girl- child.
