ECOWAS Extends Condolences To Ghana Following Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed its profound sorrow and solidarity with the people and government of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several senior government officials, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

President Omar Touray in an official statement, conveyed the regional body’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the Ghanaian government, and the people of Ghana, saying “It is with profound sorrow that we have received the tragic news of the helicopter crash in Ghana, our thoughts and prayers are with you in this moment of national grief.”

The accident, which occurred Wednesday, 6th August 2025, has left the nation in mourning as it loses key government figures who have been pivotal in driving national progress.

ECOWAS leadership reaffirmed its unwavering support and commitment to Ghana during this challenging period.

As the investigations into the cause of the crash continue, the regional body stands with Ghana, offering both emotional and logistical support.

The ECOWAS message reinforces the strong ties that bind West African nations, showcasing the unity and shared sense of loss that has enveloped the region.
