Twenty Four hours after the arrest of pro-democracy campaigner and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore by the Nigerian police, There have been reports that he was allegedly moved from the force intelligence department, FID in abuja to an undisclosed location.
On tuesday night, Sowore had posted on his social media handle along with the letter of invitation from the police to appear at the force headquarters, Wednesday at 11am, yet failed to provide a copy of the purported petition against him but honoured the invite and has been detained since then.
On Wednesday morning. It was posted on his social media handle that the Action alliance Congress, AAC’s 2023 presidential candidate, was said to have been moved from the Force Intelligence Department, FID of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, around 6am to an unknown location with his hand allegedly broken because he refused to allow them take him out of the cell without his clothes.
While in custody, the activist from his post said he was served two petitions, explaining that the first petition accused him of forgery, while the second accused Sowore of “criminal defamation”.
Reacting to the arrest, the Amnesty International has condemned the detention of Omoyele Sowore, describing it as unlawful and politically motivated and called for his unconditionally release.
It also advised the Nigerian police to drop all bogus and politically motivated charges towards listening to critics instead of seeking to gag oppositions.
Sowore has been a constant campaigner against police brutality, bad governance and other human rights abuse.
