Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has issued a 21-day strike notice to the federal government, over what it calls lackadaisical attitude of the government to its 14-point demand.
At a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, ASUP President, Sunday Kpanja listed some concerns to include non-implementation of minimum wage in several states, continuous dichotomy against polytechnic graduates. Others are delay in implementation of dual-mode to allow polytechnics run degrees programmes too, non-renegotiation of the 2010 agreement and outsourcing of programmes accreditation
On the newly launched Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund, TISSF, ASUP insists that the government cannot be owing workers and still want to push loans down their throats.
ASUP is also asking the government to be sincere in its determination to raise the quality and standards of education in Nigeria.
