Locals, mainly indigent women, nursing mothers and the elderly in hard-to-reach communities of Ebonyi State, have benefited from a free medical outreach programme of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital.

Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Uzoma Agwu says, the outreach which is designed as part of the institution’s cooperate social responsibility, is timely as it seeks to reduce the number of complicated cases referred to tertiary health facilities

They came out in their hundreds with varying degrees of health complications, to seek relief from medical experts in the midst of challenging economic realities.

For the people of Ngbo, a hard to reach Local community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, access to proper medical health care is a hard nut, therefore the opportunity of a free medical attention from experts of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital came handy.

Being a big market day, women, children, the elderly joined overstretching queues to take turns to be attended to.

The medical team had on arrival met with the traditional ruler of the community to intimate him on the takeover of a comprehensive health center established during the former Governor Jim Nwobodo era by the DUFUTH management for an effective and affordable access to healthcare services of the people.
