The Benue State House of Assembly has reacted to what it termed as a fabricated Order Paper circulating on social media, purporting that a bill seeking to prohibit all forms of romantic relationships in the state is before the House.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker Terver Zamber stated in clear terms that no such bill has been presented, considered, or sponsored in the 10th Assembly.

The Assembly insists that the content of the fake Order Paper, which claims that engaging in romantic relationships would constitute an offence punishable by law starting January 2026, is entirely false and misleading.

It said the misinformation is the handiwork of mischief makers who do not mean well for the 10th Benue State House of Assembly.

Adding that it is a deliberate attempt to deceive the unsuspecting public and tarnish the image of the House.

For the avoidance of doubt, all bills presented in the Benue State House of Assembly are sponsored by duly elected Honourable Members representing their various constituencies.

The so-called bill in circulation has no sponsor and did not emanate from any Member of the House.

The 10th Assembly, under the leadership of the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, remains committed to enacting people-oriented legislation that promotes peace, unity, progress, and the overall welfare of the good people of Benue State.”The Statement read in part

The Assembly urged the public to disregard the fake Order Paper and treat it as nothing more than an unfortunate distraction.
