Hundreds of residents of Etomi community in Etung Local Government Area and neighboring villages have received free medical services, during a two-day outreach organized by the Cross River State Government in partnership with development agencies.

The outreach, staged at the newly renovated Etomi Primary Health Centre, provided consultations, screenings, eye care, surgeries, and essential drugs at no cost, giving many rural dwellers access to medical attention they ordinarily could not afford.

For residents of Etomi, the two-day medical outreach was more than a government program, it was a relief long prayed for.

Many came with ailments they had lived with for years but could not afford to treat.

From free consultations and screenings to eye treatment and life-saving surgeries, the intervention brought hope to families who had resigned themselves to fairh.

The Village Head of Etomi, Chief David Amba who was among those treated, said the outreach has given him a new lease on life.

Representing Governor Bassey Otu, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, said the outreach reflects the state government’s “People First” agenda and its commitment to making quality healthcare accessible, especially in rural communities.

With nearly 300 residents treated in just two days, the outreach has not only restored health to individuals, but also strengthened community confidence in the state government’s promise to place people at the centre of its healthcare reforms.
