Latest reports from Bauchi State in the North-East region of Nigeria, say tension is rising in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, following an attack by suspected Fulani herders who allegedly macheted three people – two women and a teenager on their way back from the farm, late Monday.

A source in the area told ait.live that the victims were returning from their farmland on the outskirts of Pekman community around 5:00 pm when the attackers struck, inflicting life-threatening injuries.

The source explained that a young boy among the local farmers managed to escape from the attack, and alerted people at nearby communities, leading to their rescue and evacuation of victims to a General hospital in area for treatment.

This incident, he said, is the latest in a series of attacks within the past two weeks, which have also seen destruction of farmlands and crops by grazing cattle.

The President of Zaar Development Association, Yusuwa Gallah, has confirmed the attack to the media, and called on security agencies and the Bauchi State Government to strengthen security in the area. He warned that, after over a decade of violence, Tafawa Balewa must not slide back into unrest, adding that urgent measures are needed to prevent the situation from escalating like in neighbouring Plateau State.

The Bauchi State Police Command is yet to react to the latest developments as the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, has neither answered calls nor responded to text messages by the AIT Correspondent in the location at the time of this report.
