2023 Election: INEC Promises improved BVAS

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured Nigerians that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, deployed for the 2021 Anambra governorship election will be tremendously improved upon for optimal performance in future elections.

The national chairman of the commission, Yakubu Mahmood said that in Abuja during a Meeting With The Resident Electoral Commissioners to review activities of the year 2021.

He said that hitches from the new technology were observed and important lessons learned.

INEC chairman said that Third Quarter of voter registration exercise will commence in January 2022 ahead of the 2023 elections and urged Nigerians to register and collect their card in time to avoid the last-minute rush.

Yakubu told newsmen that A total of 42,986 Nigerians completed registration in the FCT ahead of council’s election, February next year, and the Commission is cleaning up the data using the new Automatic Biometric Identification System, ABIS, to weed out multiple registrations. He said that 14,665 (34.1%) multiple registrations were detected and rejected.
