Environmental Protection: Kano State Govt Bans Activities Of Chain Saw Operators

Kano State Government has announced the immediate ban on the felling of trees and activities of those it called illegal chainsaw operators as a measure of curbing deforestation and safeguarding wildlife.

The state commissioner for Environment and climate change Dahiru Hashim, who announced the ban at a news briefing said, defaulters will face severe sanctions in accordance with relevant laws of the federation and that of the state.

Kano state falls within the Sahel region, making it prone to acute environmental challenges, as the state has been making efforts in mitigating climate change effects through the aggressive planting of trees, an effort which appears threatened by activities of wood loge operators.

To address this ugly trend, boost air quality, conserve natural resources and address climate related disasters, the state commissioner for environment t and climate change Dahiru Hashim, announces a ban on felling of trees across the state.

In order to enforce the ban, the state has put in place stringent measures to checkmate activities of operators across the forty four local government areas of the state

This development is coming months after the state government unveiled an environmental and climate policy of the state, a proactive step taken to ensure effective governance of the climate and environment sectors of the state.
