The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a News anchor with Arise Television, who reportedly lost her life during an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister described the incident as both heartbreaking and devastating. He commiserated with the management and staff of Arise News, as well as the family of the deceased, assuring that government authorities are committed to uncovering the truth behind her death, and bringing those responsible to justice.

Confirming the development, the FCT Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, disclosed that Somtochukwu was brought to the Maitama General Hospital already deceased at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday. A preliminary medical report, she added, is being compiled and will be handed over to the Police to aid ongoing investigations.

The statement further described the late broadcaster as a vibrant and promising young woman whose life was tragically cut short in its prime. It emphasized that her passing is not only a loss to Arise News and the media industry but to the entire nation.
