The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the terrorists’ abduction of a former Commissioner of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Ahmed Mohammed, popularly known as Barrister Ahmed Lawyer, and his driver.
Also abducted is a former State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Mohammed Niworu as well as scores of other motorists.
Spokesman of the police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun who confirmed the incident in a statement, said that a Police patrol vehicle was damaged with gunshots in the process.
The incident was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, at a roundabout in Ibbi National Park, along the Zugurma-Ibbi to New Bussa road in the MaShegu Local Government Area of the State.
Abiodun also confirmed that the terrorists had abducted some passengers along the road from about three vehicles.
Following the incident, the Police have mobilised more tactical teams with other security agencies, and vigilante members trailing the suspected kidnappers with a view to rescuing the abducted victims and possibly arresting the hoodlums.
A source from the area disclosed that the victims were said to be returning from Borgu when the incident occurred and the victims’ mobile phones were left behind in the vehicle.
