The Kebbi State Government says it will shoulder the liability of paying compensation for land acquired to construct the permanent site of Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru.

Consequently, Governor Nasir Idris, has directed his Commissioner for Lands and Housing to liaise with the management of the university, to conclude the process for payment within two weeks.

Idris gave the order, in reaction to the request by the Governing Council for intervention, to enable the institution to move to the permanent site, because some people are still occupying the allocated land for the site.

The Chairperson, Governing Board and Pro Chancellor, Hajiya Azizat Raji, told the governor, that the non-movement has slowed down the development of the university.

She said, “We’re appealing to His Excellency, to provide prompt compensation to the households occupying the land, to allow the university to gain access to the site.”

“The university is proposing strategic partnership in agricultural growth, through the provision of agricultural extension services and training to Kebbi.”

“We are determined to make the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, become a model for agricultural excellence,” Azizat assured.

Governor Nasir Idris welcomed the partnership proposal with the university, to improve agricultural production and farming activities in the state.

“Kebbi is an agrarian land with huge agricultural potential for production; the government will strengthen partnership with the university to fully harness such endowment for food security and economic prosperity.”

“My administration will address the issue of compensation; the government will give such compensation to enable the university to relocate to its permanent site.”

“The university is an added advantage to the educational, economic and agricultural development of Kebbi State, which we shall not toy with,” the governor remarked.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibrahim Nasiru Muhammad, other top management staff and members of the Governing Council, accompanied the Pro Chancellor on the visit.
