Kano Govt Seeks Collaboration With Correctional Service To Improve Inmates Welfare

Kano State Government has presented a collaborative proposal to the federal government to partner with it towards the full completion and utilization of the custodial center in the Janguza area of the state.

Leading a high powered state delegation to the Comptroller General of the Nigerian correctional service in Abuja, Kano State Commissioner For internal security, Air vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru Retired, says the old Kurumawa custodial center no longer meets the present day reformation status.

The Kurumawa Custodial center, formerly known as Kano prison, was establish in 1910 by the British colonial administration and having lived for one hundred and fifteen years, the facility built with muddy sand is not just a security threat in the case of jail break, but can no longer serve the modern reformation intention.

With a new custodial center in place at the Janguza area of the state, Kano state government has sent a delegation through its commissioner for internal security, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Unaru to seek collaboration with the federal government towards completing and relocating inmates there.

Leader of the delegation, Ibrahim Umaru says the move which aims at supporting the good intentions of the federal government has far reaching multiplier effects.

The comptroller-General, Nigerian correctional service is pleased with moves initiated by Kano state governor Abba Yusuf and promised to get the bye-in of the minister of interior.
