Students receive sponsorship from Mokwa flood Support group after Flood disaster

Survivors of the Mokwa Flood disaster in Niger State, through the Mokwa Flood Support Group, have again appealed to President Bola Tinubu to fulfill the 2 billion naira resettlement housing project and the 15 MVA transformer promised almost six months ago.

The group has also taken it upon themselves to sponsor 88 children of the victims to attend school, as well as train 41 widows in various skills that align with their interests, creating a means of livelihood for them and their families.

The Mokwa Flood disaster occurred on May 29, 2025 and to date, the resettlement housing and the 15 MVA transformer promised by the federal government during an on-the-spot assessment to the disaster site are yet to be fulfilled.

A visit to the proposed site still remains a bare playground with only a tattered, makeshift tent erected by an individual.

Both the chairman of the Mokwa Flood Support Group, Assistant Controller General of Customs Rtd, Ahmed Nasir, the Ndalile of Mokwa, Muhammadu Shaba and other stakeholders, on behalf of the victims, pleaded with Tinubu to redeem the pledges.

To ensure that the children of the deceased victims of the flood continue with their education without hitches, the group provided school fee cheques for 88 pupils in 10 different schools, as well as cheques to 6 training institutes for 41 widows to undergo skills acquisition.

Responding on behalf of the school proprietors, Principal of Hakimi Aliyu Secondary school, Mokwa, Suleiman Jibrin, urged for the sustenance of the sponsorship, and promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring that all the pupils were impacted positively.

School materials such as bags, shoes and uniforms were also presented to the pupils at the Kpege Primary School, Mokwa.
