An environmental advocacy campaign aimed at tackling plastic pollution has taken place in Kano, North West Nigeria, a corporate social responsibility initiative of Alternative bank, tagged: “Altawalk for zero plastic”

Correspondent Enemona Ocheme reports that the event brought together residents, majorly the business community across markets in the state to raise awareness on the dangers of plastic waste and promote recycling as a source of income.

From the Alternative bank’s office in Kano, it was a walk for purpose, and the streets of Kano came alive as participants joined the walk for zero plastic –an initiative of Alternative Bank, where slogans, awareness and distribution of flyers took center stage.

Regional business Executive of the Alternative Bank, Aminu Wada-Nass says, beyond the corporate social responsibility impact of the walk, issues of ecological friendliness align with their bank’s policy.

With its waste bank initiative, Aminu charges Nigerians to see plastic waste as money-making venture through responsible recycling.

Head, Corporate Social Investment, Solomon Okwonkwo says the climate change advocacy gets to a larger population of Nigeria if the media make it a core item of their broadcast content.

With waste bins donated to the market for proper collection of plastic waste, the bank hopes to strengthen partnerships with key players such as the Kano state Waste Management Agency, Market Organizations, Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria and the media.
