Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun

To sustain collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association, a joint Police–NBA committee has been inaugurated to strengthen understanding between the Bar and the Force on issues surrounding the controversial tinted glass permit.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, assured that all laws will continue to be enforced with fairness, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights, while urging motorists to use this window to regularize their vehicle documentation.

The assurance followed the visit of a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association led by its President, Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Discussions centred on the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 1991 an issue that has recently generated public debate and legal contestation.

At the end of the meeting, the Police announced a temporary suspension of the enforcement of the tinted glass law, pending the outcome of a case scheduled for hearing on October 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.

While noting that no clear court order currently restrains enforcement, the Force said the decision was taken out of respect for Nigerians and in consideration of the position of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The move marks a new phase of cooperation between the Police and the Bar, a gesture many hope will deepen public confidence in law enforcement and the justice system.
