Climate Change Africa

Stakeholders in the energy sector have called for sustainable solutions through conversion of solar data into real capital to accelerate climate finance and clean energy in Nigeria.

The Founder, Vectar Energy, Deborah Fadeyi, said this during the maiden EcoWise multi-stakeholder forum with the theme: “Trust, Scale, Impact: Unlocking climate financing through carbon credits for Solar in Nigeria”

According to Deborah Fadeyi, access to electricity has become a burden, at least 8.6 million Nigerians are unable to access electricity, amidst plenty of power supply.

Fadeyi said that when Nigeria gets to COP events, rather than asking for aids, the conversation should centre on how Nigeria can get support to build solar hubs across the country

She also explained that carbon credit is sold to corporate buyers such as Amazon, Microsoft, to be able to showcase their net zero confidence as the world progresses to net zero by 2050.

The Vice President, Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, Damilola Asaleye commended the launch of the EcoWISE platform by Vectar Energy, which he described as an innovative platform that is needed currently in Nigeria and Africa at large.

She described EcoWise as platform that is locally built by a Nigerian to bolster sustainable solutions in the renewable energy sector and to enable Africans to have access to climate finance.

The Ambassador of Israel to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, in a message delivered by Thelma Agada, B-Technology Project Manager, says Vectar Energy is the result of the partnership between Nigeria and Israel through the establishment of the Innovate Hub.

According to him, Nigeria has everything it takes to lead Africa’s clean energy transformation through vast sunlight, abundant natural resources and most importantly, a young, talented, determined population.

High point of the event was the launch of the EcoWise technical paper, virtual presentations on: Nigeria’s solar ambition, empowering people for climate resilient energy access and financing the solar transition.
