Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a police constable following an alleged altercation with a military officer during patrol operations in the state capital.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Wakil, the incident occurred during a routine police patrol in the Bayan Gari area, near Padimo Hotel, where Constable Ukasha Mohammed was reportedly assaulted and fatally shot.
Wakil stated that the suspected assailant, dressed in partial military uniform and armed with a rifle, approached the police patrol team and opened fire, striking Constable Ukasha in the chest.
He said the injured policeman was immediately rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The police spokesperson also said the suspected military officer has since been apprehended and is currently in police custody pending further investigation.
Wakil added that the State Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu has set up a special homicide investigation team to conduct a thorough and professional inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to transparency and justice.
