The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recently concluded Kaura Namoda South State Constituency bye-election in Zamfara State, Mohammed Lawal has dumped the PDP and pitched tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lawal, who was defeated in the bye-election by APC candidate, Kamilu Sa’idu, announced his defection to APC this Saturday during a consultation meeting for Zamfara Central organised by the APC support group, for Yazeed Project, in Gusau, the state capital.

Lawal said the PDP neglected him after the election despite his contributions to the party’s success in past elections, especially in the 2023 general elections.

He further said that what influenced his decision is personal, and he claimed he was convinced that Governor Dauda Lawal has no feeling for majority of the people who worked day and night for his victory.

The former PDP chieftain said he has confidence in the leadership of the APC under the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, and the state party chairman, Tukur Danfulani, adding that the APC will not neglect him like PDP did despite his support in the 2023 polls that led to its victory.

While receiving Mohammed Lawal into the APC fold, the State Chairman, Tukur Danfulani, represented by the party’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris, described the defection as a monumental achievement for the party.

The APC Publicity Secretary, expressed the hope that more political figures, including state lawmakers, local government chairmen, and officials from other political parties will join the APC soon.
