Nigeria must convene a National Poverty Summit, to harmonise policies that will bind National Action Plan for food security and poverty eradication.

This was the call to action at the ActionAid Nigeria Hand-In-Hand for better foods and a better future event, organised as part of the activities to mark 2025 World Food Day celebration in Abuja.

It was a gathering of farmers, as is done every year to promote the World Food Day celebration by raising awareness and taking collective action against hunger and malnutrition.

But this year, the farmers have the opportunity to make their voices louder, this time in contrast to the 2025 Agriculture Performance Survey report.

Another issue of great importance raised was the need for the implementation of the country’s Mechanisation policy.

For ActionAid Nigeria, the government must prioritise increased investments in agriculture, particularly in agroecology, climate-resilient practices that support small holder farmers, especially women and youths.

They used the opportunity to recognise the International Rural Women’s Day with the theme “Empowering Rural Women for Reparatory Justice: Advancing inclusive and sustainable Agri-Food Systems in Africa,” stressing the need for Nigerian government to mitigate the growing hunger and malnutrition crisis in the country.
