Social Democratic Party, SDP has expelled its suspended National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and several other national officers over allegations of misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.
During the National Working Committee, NWC meeting held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the SDP said the decision followed the adoption of a report and white paper submitted by its Disciplinary Committee.
The meeting was presided over by the Acting National Chairman, Umar- Abubakar Gombe, and the National Secretary, Olu Agunloye.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, read the resolution after the meeting.
Meanwhile, in a telephone interview with AIT.live, the suspended National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, dismissed the action of the NWC, saying the committee led by Abubakar Gombe lacks the legal authority to expel him or any other officer of the party.
Gabam further argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC does not recognise the current NWC of the SDP.
It will be recalled that on June 24 this year, the NWC suspended Gabam and some other officers, setting up a disciplinary panel on July 4 to investigate allegations of financial misappropriation and other related offences.
