As part of measures to ensure adequate security and safety in the November 8 Anambra State Governorship election, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has given a stern warning that the Command will not tolerate the indiscriminate use of vehicles without plate numbers or with covered registration plates across the State.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in an official statement described the practice as a serious security breach that poses threats, particularly at a time when the Command and other security agencies are intensifying efforts to guarantee public safety and order before, during, and after the election.

The statement notes that criminals often exploit unregistered or covered vehicles to perpetrate crimes, evade arrest, or disrupt the peace of the State. The CP warned that such vehicles would be impounded and the owners prosecuted in accordance with existing laws.

The statement further directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and Tactical Commanders to intensify patrols, Stop-and-Search operations, and ensure full enforcement of this directive throughout Anambra State.
