The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called on activists across the country to sustain the legacies of Beko Ransome-Kuti, Gani Fawehinmi and Festus Iyayi, who courageously held leaders accountable

CDHR’s National President, Kehinde Taiga, who led the call at a conference on human rights in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said governance can only improve for benefit of citizens if activists play a leading role in society.

The forum was a convergence of human rights activists from across the country. It provided a moment of reflection on the roles of late Beko Ransome-Kuti, Gani Fawehinmi, and Festus Iyayi, who’s active engagements with the military contributed to the restoration democracy to Nigeria.

The activists said they remain resolute in their demands for genuine police and security reform, federalism, and urged human rights activists to rise to the challenge.

They also want Nigerians to make conscious decisions at elections and not compromise on their rights and power to choose their leaders

The activists are demanding that the government urgently address issues of crime and insecurity and stop the wanton loss of lives.
