Disengaged Kaduna Electric Workers Protest Unpaid 88-month Arrears

Former employees of Kaduna Electric have staged a peaceful protest at the company’s headquarters in Kaduna, demanding the payment of their over 7 years of outstanding arrears and other entitlements.

They accused the management of the energy company of failing to honour its own conditions of service.

The.protesting disengaged workers, carried placards with inscriptions such as “Pay Us Our Entitlements” and “Kaduna Electric, You Violated Your Condition of Service,” among others.

They alleged that despite serving the company for up to 8 years, Kaduna Electric has refused to pay the agreed 35% annual benefits, offering only 20% instead.

The former staff said several meetings with the management, security agencies, and government officials have failed to produce any results.

They further alleged that the Company received a Federal Government bailout to clear arrears but has yet to pay the affected workers.

The protesters also questioned why the company continues to employ new staff, while claiming financial incapacity to settle those disengaged.

The disengaged workers vowed to continue their peaceful protest until all outstanding entitlements are paid.

Kaduna Electric is yet to respond to the allegations at the time of this report.
