Newly Appointed CDS, Service Chiefs to Be Screened On Wednesday As Senate Receives Tinubu’s Confirmation Request

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded to the Senate a request for the confirmation of newly appointed Service Chiefs, including the Chief of Defence Staff, in line with Section 181 of the Armed Forces Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The nominees are:

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede – Chief of Defence Staff

Major-General Waidi Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff.

Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke – Chief of Air Staff.

Rear Admiral Idi Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff.

The communication from the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu was read on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary by President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio.

President Tinubu in the letter, urged the Senate to give the request expeditious consideration to ensure continuity in the nation’s security architecture.

The communication was subsequently referred to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration, with screening of the nominees scheduled for Wednesday’s plenary session.
