Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state

River State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has identified that the only way crime and other social vices can be tamed, is when the less privileged have jobs and there are opportunities for them to feed and provide for their families.

The Governor maintains that so long as the gap between the rich and poor continues to widen, the country will continue to have security challenges.

Speaking when he played host to the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Governor Fubara stated that apart from embarking on policies that make life easier for the people, his administration will also partner organisations like the NDE to create employment opportunities for the people.

Leading other top officials, the NDE boss, Silas Agagra, was at the Government House, Port Harcourt, to brief Governor Siminalayi Fubara on the activities of the Agency and to further explore areas that will help boost employment in the State.

The NDE according to him, has been actively involved in various initiatives, including skills acquisition training in Rivers State

Agagra told Governor Fubara that under the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative of the Federal Government, the NDE has trained thousands of youths, including Persons Living with Disabilities, across the country in demand-driven skills.

He disclosed that NDE is also giving serious attention to disadvantaged women in rural areas.

Agara said the Agency has commenced training for women in different skill, such as agriculture, technical and ICT.

Worried by the high rate of poverty and unemployment in the country, Governor Siminalayi Fubara said that unless something urgent is done, the country will continue to be plagued by crime and insecurity.

He explained that his administration is embarking on projects that will generate employment and help boost the State’s economy.

The Rivers State Governor added that his administration is taking full advantage of the State’s vast potential in the marine and blue economy, to create employment opportunities for her youth and boost the economy.

Governor Fubara told his guest that the current administration is open to partnerships and will continue to do everything within its powers to support efforts that will boost employment opportunities for the people of Rivers State.
