Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived Belem, Brazil, to attend the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30).

The summit is being held in the capital city of Pará state, nestled in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon.

The conference, themed “Climate Action and Implementation,” brings together global leaders, development partners, and business executives to discuss pressing issues like adaptation, forests, biodiversity, and climate justice.

Shettima’s visit is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change.

The Vice President’s schedule is packed with high-level engagements, including delivering Nigeria’s climate action address at the general plenary of leaders.

He will also participate in the launch of the Tropical Forest Forever Fund and join a roundtable on Climate and Nature, alongside President Lula.

COP 30 marks a decade since the Paris Agreement, with the aim of intensifying efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

The conference seeks to scale up climate finance to $1.3 trillion annually for developing countries by 2035, underscoring the urgent need for collective action.
