Armed terrorists have abducted 25 girls as they launch a deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, in the early hours of Monday, where they killed the Vice Principal.
Following the attack, security authorities in Kebbi State have deployed heavy security operations in the area.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police, Nafiu Abubakar Karkokoshi, has confirmed the incident in an update issued on Monday afternoon.
Nafiu said the attack occurred around 4am when “a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically, stormed the school in Danko district, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.”
The report said the Police tactical units positioned at the school engaged the attackers in a gun battle, but the bandits had already scaled the school fence and forced their way into the hostels.
Following the assault, the Police Command deployed additional tactical squads, while military personnel and vigilante groups were also mobilised to join the search-and-rescue mission. Security teams are currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in pursuit of the assailants.
The attack has further worsened growing concerns about school safety in Nigeria’s North-West region, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted educational institutions for mass kidnappings.
