CAN confirms abduction of 215 students, 12 teachers in Niger State

Following an attack by terrorists on St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools, Papiri in Agwarra local government area of Niger state, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Most Reverend Bulus Yohanna has confirmed that a total of 227 persons, including students and teachers, were abducted.

According to him, 215 students and 12 teachers, were taken hostage by the terrorists.

Yohanna, who is also the Catholic Archbishop of Kontagora, gave the update shortly after visiting the school.

In a statement by his media aide, Daniel Atori, the CAN chairman said he also met with parents of the children to assure them that they are working with the government and security agencies to see that the children are rescued and brought back safely.

Yohanna added that during the terrorist attack, some students escaped, and parents have started coming to pick up their children as the school has been shut down.

He therefore called on everyone to remain calm and prayerful and assured that they are actively collaborating with security operatives, community leaders and government authorities for the safe and quick return of all abductees.
