Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the Northern region, has confirmed the death of a Kaduna Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, who died while in the captivity of terrorists.
Achi, who was the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, was abducted along with his wife and daughter in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement from the Chairman of Northern CAN, Reverend Joseph Hayap, the late Achi was abducted on October 28 at his residence in Nissi community.
The church described his death as a painful loss, noting that he was a devoted minister whose humility and service touched many lives.
The statement also revealed that Achi’s wife and daughter are still being held by the terrorists, who reportedly demanded a ransom of N600 million for their release.
In honour of the late priest, the Diocese has cancelled its annual Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme.
Achi, originally from Umuaja in Delta State, is remembered for his years of pastoral leadership and dedication to the Anglican Church.
His death comes amid renewed concerns over rising insecurity in the North-West, where mass abductions of students, worshippers, and rural residents have continued in recent weeks.
