Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the Muslim community across Nigeria and beyond, and particularly the Tijjaniyya sect, following the passing of the renowned Islamic scholar.
The revered cleric, aged 102, passed away in the early hours of Thursday at his residence in Bauchi after a prolonged illness.
Governor Mohammed in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as a distinguished scholar whose contributions to Islamic theology, jurisprudence, and spirituality have made a lasting impact on society.
He noted that the late Sheikh was not only a custodian of deep religious knowledge but also a unifying voice who consistently preached peace, tolerance, and mutual respect among Muslims as well as between different faith groups.
“Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi was a towering figure in Islamic scholarship – a man of profound faith, humility, and wisdom. His life was dedicated to the propagation of Islam, the teaching of the Holy Qur’an, and the moral and spiritual upliftment of humanity. Through his numerous schools and learning centres, he nurtured thousands of students who memorised the Qur’an and spread Islamic knowledge across the African continent.” the governor said
While describing the cleric’s death as a monumental loss, Governor Mohammed said the state takes solace in the fact that the Sheikh lived a life fully devoted to the service of Allah, humanity, and the advancement of knowledge – a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
The statement added that the Bauchi State Government remains committed to honouring the memory of the late scholar by supporting the institutions and values he championed, especially in Islamic education, moral discipline, and community development.
