The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers in Kano State to sustain their role in national food security, especially through year-round irrigation farming.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the distribution of agricultural inputs worth over one billion naira, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, assured farmers that the Bola Tinubu led administration will continue to strengthen local food production through partnerships with state governments.
Despite Kano’s low annual rainfall capable of discouraging farming, the state continues to feed local national and even international markets through extensive irrigation farming, taking advantage of available water bodies.
President Bola Tinubu was commended for his policy direction which saw to the reviving and rehabilitation of key irrigation facilities that have boosted food production across Kano South.
The distributed inputs—including planters, harvesters, water-pumping machines, ploughing equipment, tricycles, and motorcycles for transporting produce—are expected to significantly strengthen food production and reduce food insecurity.
