Nigerian Air Force has confirmed the crash of one its alpha jets in Kainji area of Niger State, North-Central Nigeria.
In a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information at the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the aircraft developed an emergency fault shortly after take off, during a post-inspection functional check flight, which prompted the two pilots on board to act swiftly.
They were able to manoeuvre the aircraft away from populated areas before executing a safe ejection. The aircraft crashed on a farmland close to Karabonde community in Kainji area of Borgu Local Government. The crew is said to be currently undergoing routine medical evaluation.

The statement further added that the Nigerian Air Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to stringent safety standards and operational excellence, adding that it remains dedicated to safeguarding its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in line with its constitutional mandate.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has ordered the immediate constitution of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the incident.
