The Senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Katung, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter addressed to his colleagues, Senator Katung said the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with his constituents, stakeholders, and supporters across the country.
He stated that throughout his political career, he has remained committed to the ideals of democracy, good governance, and service to the common man.
However, he explained that evolving political and moral realities within the nation have made it necessary for him to re-evaluate his continued association with the PDP.
According to the lawmaker, at this stage of Nigeria’s democratic journey, it has become imperative for him to align with a political platform that better reflects his values and offers renewed hope, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to the welfare of the people.
Senator Katung noted that his aspiration has always been to serve his constituents more effectively and to contribute meaningfully to the collective progress of the nation’s democracy.
He emphasized that his decision is guided solely by his conscience and his desire to act in the best interest of the country.
The senator expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences he gained during his time in the party, particularly when it was united and focused on national development.
He also wished the leadership and members of the PDP well in their future endeavours.
