The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Friday met with Members of the People Democratic party to address the receipt of different correspondences and other issues requested from it by the Turaki led Party and that of Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s faction.
The meeting of the warring factions of the PDP is coming ahead of the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory, FCT area council elections, as well as the Governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states.
Amupitan, while addressing the party’s leaders at INEC’s headquarters, Abuja, stated that as an independent commission with a statutory mandate to monitor the activities of political parties and to conduct elections, deemed it necessary to invite the warring groups within the party for the meeting ahead of forthcoming Elections to ensure hitch – free process as he stressed on the need to maintain the sanctity of the constitution as well as the Electoral Act and the guidelines.
Though noting that the matter is in court, Amupitan pointed out the need for sincerely delebrations to achieve the objectives of the meeting.

After a closed door meeting with the electoral body, the Turaki led Party says it is hopeful that INEC recognizes it as the authentic leadership as it says it will continue to operate according to its mandate, demand accountability from the ruling All Progressives Congress at all times and express optimism of victory in future Elections; while the group led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu insists that it is working towards a National Elective convention owing to the expiration date the Party’s past executive and has commenced the process of organising state congresses and tidy other grey areas in a build up to it upcoming Convention as agreed at its National Executive Committee, NEC meeting.
At the meeting were the National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki and members of his National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, and a former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, among others.
Also at the meeting were Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, Umar Bature and other members of the caretaker Committee of the faction.
