Team Imo has emerged as the maiden champions of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Under-15 Football Competition for the South-South region, including Abia and Imo states.

In a thrilling encounter, Team Imo defeated Team Edo 2-1 in the final.

All three goals were scored in the first half of a match that lived up to its billing as the Chief of Defence Staff commended the young athletes for their exceptional discipline throughout the tournament.

The six-day championship showcased incredible soccer artistry from young, talented players who represent the future of Nigerian football.

The climax of the tournament saw Team Imo edge out Team Edo in a pulsating 2-1 victory to lift the trophy and claim the five million-naira prize money.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, in his closing remarks, expressed confidence in the players’ future success, citing the determination they displayed on the pitch.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara—represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Sports, Emmanuel Ndah,
commended the military for its commitment to youth development through sports.

For the outstanding players and officials of Team Imo, it was a rewarding end to an intense competition.

Trophies and medals were presented to the winners, Team Imo, the first runners-up, Team Edo; and the second runners-up, Team Akwa Ibom.
