Many motorists and commuters were stranded on Sunday following a heavy gridlock on Murtala Bridge along the Abuja–Lokoja Highway in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The road users appealed to Government to urgently fix the bad portions of the highway to ease traffic congestion, especially during the yuletide season.
Travelling for these Nigerians turned very unpleasant moving from the southern part of the country to the north via the Lokoja–Abuja Highway, as heavy gridlock lasting several hours brought traffic to a standstill.
With Christmas and New Year celebrations around the corner, many motorists and commuters remain trapped in the congestion.
Some of them recounted their ordeal and express frustration over the delay.
They are called on government to urgently rehabilitate the damaged sections of the road to ensure the free movement of vehicles, particularly as Nigerians travel to celebrate the festive season.
While relevant agencies are making efforts to restore traffic flow, road users insist that urgent intervention is needed to make the highway motorable and guarantee a smooth and safe festive season for travellers.
