Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commissioned the Zonal Hospital in Ahoada Local Government Area, marking a major milestone in his administration’s drive to strengthen healthcare delivery and bring quality and affordable medical services closer to the people.
Governor Fubara says the project, which underscores his administration’s commitment to improving access to affordable and quality healthcare across the state, also aligns with his administration’s vision of prioritising the welfare of the people through strategic investments in critical sectors.
Amid cheers from residents and community leaders, Governor Siminalayi Fubara arrives in Ahoada, headquarters of Ahoada East Local Government Area, to commission the newly remodeled 105-bed Zonal Hospital housed in a three-storey structure.
The facility is designed to provide secondary healthcare services and reduce the pressure on tertiary hospitals in Port Harcourt and other urban centres.
For years, residents of Ahoada and neighbouring communities have had to travel long distances to access specialised medical care.
The commissioning of this zonal hospital equipped with modern medical equipment and essential facilities is therefore seen as a major relief, bringing quality healthcare services closer to the people.
The hospital features fully functional wards, operating theatres, diagnostic laboratories, maternity and child health units, as well as emergency and outpatient departments.
The governor explained that the Ahoada Zonal Hospital is part of a broader healthcare reform programme that includes the construction of new hospitals, the rehabilitation of existing facilities, the provision of modern equipment, and the recruitment of qualified medical personnel to improve service delivery.
Similar zonal hospitals are also at various stages of completion and operation in other parts of the state, including Bori, Omoku, and Degema, reflecting the government’s determination to decentralise healthcare services.
Governor Fubara also uses the occasion to thank the people of Ahoada for their continued support, saying that the only way he can pay them back is by providing more projects and human capital development.
He further calls on the people to unite and work hard to make the 2027 election easy for the state for President Bola Tinubu.
With the Ahoada Zonal Hospital now operational, residents of the area can look forward to improved access to medical care, as the Rivers State Government continues to invest in projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life of its citizens.
