Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has confirmed coordinated airstrikes by the United States of America in conjunction with Nigeria’s Armed Forces against the foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in the north-west region of the country
This was contained in a statement made available to Defence correspondents in Abuja in the early hours of Friday by the Director Defence Information, DDI, Major-General Samaila Uba.
The statement explained that the operation was executed with the approval of the appropriate Federal Government authorities and formed part of the ongoing coordinated efforts to rid the country of terrorists and other criminal elements threatening national security.

It pointed out that the operation underscored the resolve of the Federal Government of Nigeria, working with strategic partners, to confront transnational terrorism and prevent foreign fighters from establishing or expanding footholds within Nigeria’s borders.
The statement further reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s unwavering resolve to protect lives and property and to support joint and inter-agency efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the country.
