Guinea Heads to the Polls: 6.7 Million Voters to Elect New President

Approximately 6.7 million voters in Guinea are set to head to the polls this Sunday, December 28, 2025, to elect their new President of the Republic.

The electoral event is being observed by a delegation of ECOWAS officials led by Abdoulie Janneh, head of the organisation’s observation mission.

The ECOWAS delegation, which includes high-ranking officials such as ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Abdel-Fatau Musah, and
ECOWAS Resident Representative in Guinea, Louis Blaise, visited several polling stations and offices in Conakry’s Kaloum, Dixin, and Boulbinet municipalities to witness the start of operations.

A second ECOWAS delegation, led by Senator Lawan Gana Guba, Deputy Head of the ECOWAS EOM, also observed voting in Gbéssia and Kaloum, accompanied by other officials, including Abdou Kolley and Olawale Emmanuel Awe, Nigeria’s Ambassador to ECOWAS.

Speaking to the press, head of the ECOWAS delegation, Abdoulie Janneh,
emphasized the significance of the election, highlighting Guinea’s crucial step towards a return to constitutional and democratic order. He expressed hope that the vote would take place in favourable conditions, ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process.

The international community’s presence underscores the importance of the election, as Guinea seeks to strengthen its democratic institutions. The outcome is being closely watched by regional and global stakeholders, with hopes for a credible and transparent process.
