Abubakar Abdullahi, the renowned Imam of Nghar village who saved hundreds of lives during a period of intense communal violence, has died at the age of 90.
Imam Abdullahi gained international acclaim for his bravery in June 2018. During a series of violent attacks across Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, he provided sanctuary to 262 Christians, hiding them within his mosque and personal home to shield them from attackers.
He was honoured by the U.S. State Department with the 2019 International Religious Freedom Award for his “selfless commitment to religious freedom”

A source told AIT News that the cleric passed away Thursday night at the Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos following a battle with heart disease.
He had been hospitalized for a few days prior to his death.
The late cleric, who is survived by 19 children, will be laid to rest today, Friday, in Nghar village following Juma’at prayers.
