United States President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 100% tariff on all Canadian goods entering the United States if Canada proceeds with a trade agreement with China.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump warned that Canada would face immediate punitive tariffs if it allows Chinese goods to access the U.S. market through its territory.
The threat follows rising tensions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who recently met Chinese President Xi Jinping and announced a trade deal covering sectors including electric vehicles.

Trump accused Canada of attempting to act as a transit point for Chinese exports into the United States, a move he said Washington would not tolerate. He did not provide a timeline for implementing the proposed tariffs.
It remains unclear whether the Canada–China agreement has taken effect or whether Trump’s warning refers directly to the deal.
