Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, officially received his membership card of the All Progressives Congress, APC at Gwadabawa Ward in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State

The development comes one week after he announced his defection to the ruling APC, from the African Democratic Congress ADC where his father holds sway with

Party faithful, supporters, and political stakeholders present at the historic event.

They all turned out in large number to welcome the young politician into the ruling party, describing his entry as timely and strategic.

APC stakeholders headed by the State Chairman said Abba Atiku Abubakar’s defection is a good development that will strengthen the party’s structure in Adamawa State and beyond.

While addressing supporters after receiving his membership card, Abba Atiku Abubakar expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the warm reception, pledging to work with them to promote good governance and democratic ideals.

His defection has also drawn reactions from his father, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is currently a front runner of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and a presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Vice President described his son’s decision as democracy in action, stating that it is a personal choice that creates no hard feelings between them.

Political observers say the development highlights the evolving nature of Nigeria’s democratic space, where political affiliations remain a matter of personal conviction rather than family alignment.
